Tutoring
Bound Together is an after school-tutoring program for children in grades 1-6, and come to us Tuesday – Thursday from City of Pontiac schools as well as area charters. Do you know a child who might join us? Please be in touch at: director@boundtogetherpontiac.org, and we’ll let you know about availability.
Our Focus
Math
Reading
Reading Comprehension
The children are tutored by mentors who come to us from backgrounds in teaching, engineering, retired professionals of all kinds, many from church groups and civic organizations — all united by the desire to make a difference in the life of a child. While tutors provide homework support as a priority, each child also has a personalized education plan addressing the areas that they need help with in their own binder, supporting both students and tutors on a daily basis.
Kids’ Cafe
All over the world, sharing a meal is the way in which people offer friendship and build strong ties with one another. In partnership with coordination from St. Philips’ and Michigan Department of Education Child Care Food Program, students at Bound Together receive an after-school snack and a hot meal after every tutoring session, ensuring that after working and playing hard all day our kids go home with their nutritional needs met.
Creation Station Art Experience
Bound Together students are invited to participate in our art classes — The Creation Station — held two Mondays a month during the school year. We will explore different mediums and techniques with an emphasis upon enjoying where our imaginations take us!
Kids in the Kitchen – A Healthy Cooking Class
Since 2016, Bound Together has partnered with All Saints Episcopal to offer a healthy cooking class called “Kids in the Kitchen.” (For those of you who don’t know it: every recipe is a science experiment!) We will have fun focusing on healthy food choices and learning how to apply those in cooking and when eating out.
Special Events
Every community has celebrations, and Bound Together is no different! Our families look forward to celebrations around various holidays, and we always have an end-of-year party to affirm our kids’ accomplishments.
At Christmas, through in-kind donations from the AAUW (American Association of University Women) and other charitable organizations and individuals, children have the opportunity to shop for their “special” someones, with each child receiving something(s) to put under the tree. Whether it’s Halloween, St. Patrick’s or Valentine’s Day: you can be sure that there will be a party at Bound Together!
